Children's Swimming Lessons — Arkley, Barnet EN5

More Than
Lessons.
Real Progress.

Private 1-to-1 children's swimming lessons in a warm, heated pool in Arkley, Barnet. Bespoke teaching that identifies and fixes the gaps that group swim schools overlook — session by session, at your child's pace.

What Group Lessons Can't Fix

Group swim schools move at the pace of the class, not your child. When a child falls behind or develops habits no one corrects, those problems compound.

Months of lessons, little progress

Group classes repeat the syllabus regardless of whether each child has genuinely mastered it. Private lessons move when your child is ready.

Bad habits that no one has corrected

A dropped elbow, a wide kick, holding the breath — easy to miss in a group. Brian spots them in the first session.

Different teachers every week

Rotating staff means no one builds a relationship with your child. Brian teaches every session himself — nothing is forgotten.

The Case for Longer Lessons

90 Minutes
per session

Most group swim schools offer 30 or 45-minute lessons. That's enough time to get a child in the water and run through a drill — but not enough time to identify a problem, explain it, correct it, and reinforce it through repetition.

Time to warm up properly

Children need time to settle into the water and shake off any nerves before real teaching can begin. With 90 minutes, there's no rush.

Skills need repetition to stick

A technique shown once and practised twice doesn't become muscle memory. The extra time means each skill can be drilled until it begins to feel natural.

More done per session

Two issues addressed thoroughly in one 90-minute lesson delivers more lasting progress than two shorter lessons covering the same ground superficially.

In a 30-minute group lesson, a teacher is lucky to give each child two or three corrections. In 90 minutes of private teaching, we can identify the root cause of a problem, fix it, and make sure it stays fixed. That's the difference between marking time and actually improving.

Children We've Helped Thrive

★★★★★
Danni has been an amazing teacher for my three year old daughter. She’s really helped build up her confidence and gently encourages her each week to go a little outside her comfort zone. I’m so pleased with her progress and new found enthusiasm for the water!

Steve is an excellent swimming teacher for both of our children (age 6 & 3). He is fantastic with children and they made big progress while having fun in the water.

Children's Lessons FAQ

In practice, children rarely find 90 minutes too long — they're in the water, actively learning, and the time passes quickly. The longer session allows for a proper warm-up, time to introduce and correct a skill, and enough repetition for it to actually begin to stick. A 30-minute lesson is often over before anything meaningful has been embedded. Most parents find their children leave tired but genuinely satisfied with what they've done.
Brian teaches children from around 4 years old upwards. Whether your child is a complete beginner, nervous in the water, or has been in group lessons and needs to move forward — all levels are welcome.
Yes — if two children are of a similar ability level, sessions can be shared. This works well for siblings or close friends and allows families to split the cost while still keeping the lesson small and personal. Get in touch to discuss whether it’s suitable for your children.
Yes — and this is probably the most common situation Brian works with. Children who have been in group lessons often have gaps in their technique that simply weren't identified or addressed. In the first private session, Brian will assess exactly where your child is, identify those gaps, and build a plan around fixing them. Progress from that point is usually quick.
Weekly lessons produce the fastest results, but fortnightly works well for many families too. Brian will give you an honest recommendation based on your child's level and goals at the end of the first session.
