Home Ed Swimming Lessons — Arkley, Barnet EN5

Swimming as
Proper PE.
At Your Pace.

Private 1-to-1 swimming lessons for home-educated children in a warm, heated pool in Arkley, Barnet. No school schedule, no group pressure — just focused, flexible coaching that counts as physical education. Daytime slots available Monday to Friday.

Swimming That Fits Your Timetable

Home-educating families face a problem most swimming schools aren't built for: lessons happen after school, on weekends, or in chaotic group classes that don't suit every child. We've worked with home ed families for years — and the difference is straightforward.

Daytime availability, Monday to Friday

No scrambling for early morning or Saturday slots. Home-educated children can come during the week when the pool is quietest and teaching is most focused.

Completely private — no group pressure

Our private pool in Arkley is nothing like a public leisure centre. One child, one coach, one pool. Children who struggle in busy or noisy environments thrive here.

Counts as structured PE

Sessions with a qualified coach (ASA and STA) are widely accepted as physical education within home education programmes. We can provide a session summary on request.

PE for your home education record

We know that keeping clear records matters for home-educating families. Brian provides a verbal debrief after every session, and written session notes are available on request — useful for portfolios, local authority visits, or education records. Sessions can be described as structured physical education with a qualified swimming coach. take the 30-second quiz →

Mon–FriDaytime slots
No after-school rush. No weekend battles. Because your child isn't in school during the week, they can come when the pool is calm and Brian is at his most available. Mid-morning and early afternoon are the most popular times for home ed families — and the easiest to book.

90 Minutes of Undivided Attention

90 Minutes
per session

Group swimming classes are built around time limits — get in, run the drill, get out. When a child needs more time on one skill, the group moves on anyway. In a 90-minute private session, the lesson moves at the child's pace — not the clock's.

Time to warm up and settle

Children — especially those sensitive to new environments — need time to acclimatise before learning begins in earnest. There's no rush here.

Skills drilled until they stick

Repetition is how the body learns to swim. Longer sessions mean each technique is practised enough to begin forming real muscle memory — not just demonstrated and forgotten.

More progress per session

Home education is built on the idea that learning works better when it's tailored to the individual. A 90-minute private swimming lesson is exactly that — teaching at your child's speed, not the group's.

Home-educated children often arrive with a very different relationship to learning than school-taught kids. They're used to someone actually paying attention to them, actually explaining why — not just telling them to go again. That makes my job easier and their progress faster.

Great classes - our daughter made more progress in a term here than with all of my previous years of amateurish attempts to teach her.

Home Ed Swimming FAQ

Yes — this is one of the most common reasons home ed families come to us. Daytime slots Monday to Friday are available and are the most popular choice. Because your child isn't in school, you can book at quieter times when the pool is at its calmest.
Yes. Private 1-to-1 swimming lessons with a qualified coach are widely accepted as structured physical education within home education programmes. Brian is ASA and STA qualified with over 30 years of experience. Written session summaries covering skills worked on are available on request — useful for home education records or local authority reviews.
Absolutely. Our private pool in Arkley is quiet, warm and predictable — completely unlike a busy leisure centre. Many of Brian's home-educated pupils have sensory sensitivities, autism, or aquaphobia, and the private environment is a key reason they progress where other settings haven't worked. Brian's approach is patient and non-pressured throughout.
Yes. Siblings or home education group friends of similar ability can share a 90-minute session. This is a popular arrangement in the home ed community — two children, focused teaching, shared cost. Get in touch to discuss whether it would suit your children.
Any level. Complete beginners who have never been in a pool, children who are nervous or reluctant, and those who can already swim but want to improve stroke and technique — all are welcome. Brian assesses each child in the first session and builds the plan from that honest starting point.
Progress varies by child, but private 1-to-1 coaching consistently produces results faster than group lessons. Many children begin to swim independently within 6–10 sessions. Brian will give you an honest estimate after the first lesson based on what he actually observes.
