You Are Not Alone

Most Adults Who Can't Swim Have a Very Good Reason.

It's rarely about ability. It's usually a bad childhood experience, group lessons that moved too fast, a public pool that felt overwhelming — or simply never having had the right environment. Brian has worked with hundreds of adults in exactly this position over 30 years of coaching.

The private pool in Arkley removes every barrier that makes public swimming difficult. No strangers, no noise, no lanes to share. Just warm water, complete privacy and one expert who works entirely around you.

  • Complete beginners welcome — never swum before is fine
  • Self-conscious adults — the pool is entirely private, no audience
  • Bad experiences elsewhere — a private setting changes everything
  • 90-minute sessions — time to progress without rushing
  • Same coach every session — consistency builds trust
  • No judgement, no pressure — Brian has heard it all before

Who This Is For

Common Reasons Adults Come to Us

Never properly learned

Group lessons rarely give enough individual attention. Private coaching fills those gaps properly — one issue at a time, at your pace.

Fear of the water

Brian works with genuinely anxious adults regularly. The private pool is a fundamentally different experience from any public setting.

Self-conscious as an adult

These are 1-to-1 sessions. No other swimmers, no viewing gallery. What happens in the lesson is entirely between you and Brian.

Failed group lessons

Groups move at the speed of the majority. Private lessons move at your speed. The difference in progress is significant.

Returning after years away

Many adults swam as children but drifted away. Coming back privately removes the embarrassment of being slower than you once were.

Aquaphobia

Genuine fear of water is treated with patience and a graduated approach. Brian has helped many clients cross this barrier entirely.

Concerns Answered

We've Heard It Before.

You might be thinking…
“I'm too old to learn to swim”
There is no age limit. Brian teaches adults in their 40s, 50s and 60s who swim confidently within a handful of sessions. Adults often progress faster than children once the environment is right.
You might be thinking…
“I'll feel embarrassed”
There is nothing to feel embarrassed about. The pool is entirely private — just you and Brian. No audience, no other swimmers, no one watching at any point during the session.
You might be thinking…
“I tried before and it didn't work”
Public pools and group lessons are genuinely difficult environments for nervous adults. A warm, quiet, private pool with one consistent coach is a completely different experience. Most clients who 'failed' elsewhere do not fail here.

“aged non-swimmer”

I've never been able to take my feet off the bottom let alone swim. As a 65 year old, I decided to see if I could do it and booked some lessons with Swimmingclass. After 12 lessons I can actually do it.
